Initiatives

The Council of Young Jewish Presidents cultivates and develops the next generation of Jewish lay leaders and provides them with a central platform to collaborate and act on issues of concern to the Jewish community. With over twenty member organizations, the CYJP convenes the presidents of Jewish young leadership organizations and works as an umbrella organization to create a spirit of cooperation between the many Jewish organizations represented in the Council. In addition to its role in nurturing the next generation of leaders, the CYJP provides a central address for those seeking to engage with a broad spectrum of young Jewish leaders.

The CYJP focuses on the following core areas:

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

The CYJP is keenly aware of the challenges facing young lay leaders today. In an effort to address these challenges, the CYJP provides the following leadership development opportunities to its members:

> Professional Public Speaking Training Course

> Bi-monthly briefings on timely issues facing the Jewish community today

> Encounters with political leaders and diplomats

> Mentorship opportunities with key lay leaders in the New York area

The CYJP is currently developing a comprehensive leadership development curriculum, which will include sessions on: board development, stewardship skills, Jewish leadership learning, and lay/pro partnership among other items.

COLLABORATIVE OPPORTUNITIES

In consultation with its member organizations, at times the CYJP will encourage and/or facilitate community-wide ventures among for the young leadership community of New York. Some examples of these initiatives include:

CYJP Developed and hosted the inaugural annual Jewish community-wide American Memorial Day Ceremony (now in its 6th year) commemorating the lives of both Jewish and non-Jewish soldiers lost in America’s wars. In its fourth year, the event attracted over 600 people. The CYJP is currently in the planning stages of the fifth annual such event.

CYJP launched the inaugural and second annual YL Mitzvah Day New York and connected over 120 young Jews with volunteer opportunities in New York in partnership with Jewish Social Action Month.

CONNECTING YOUNG JEWS TO JEWISH LIFE IN NEW YORK

As a network of young leadership organizations, the CYJP is uniquely positioned to connect young Jews to organizations that best suit their interests.

In November 2009, CYJP hosted a major event entitled, “An Evening of Fashion and Passion,” with over 900 young Jews and Birthright alumni to expose them to the work of our member organizations.

And in Decemeber 2012, the CYJP launched a mobile app called, "GrapeVine," which uses predictive analytics to connect young Jews in New York to the events and opportunities that best suit their life stafe and interest.
