CYJP History

The Council of Young Jewish Presidents was formed in May of 2005 after David Borowich conceived the idea to bring together the leaders of all the of Jewish Young Professional Organizations. Borowich reached out to his friend and colleague, Ayall Shanzer, who at the time was a board member at the World Jewish Congress, and together formed a group of young leaders who met with Edgar Bronfman Senior to discuss the idea of this council and to gauge interest among the young professionals at the table. Following several meetings over the course of two years, the Council was officially incorporated in 2007, and currently represents twenty organizations.

Since that time, the Council has received support from the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York and as of September 2008, filed for 501c3 under the IRS code. As of September 2008, the Council hired Hindy Poupko as its first executive director.
